Schuler is a global leader in the forming technology field. The company offers presses, automation solutions, tools, process know-how and service for the whole metal-working industry and the automobile light-weigh construction. Some of its clients are car manufacturers and suppliers, as well as companies from the forging industry, household appliance industry, packaging industry, energy industry and from the electrical industry. Schuler is a leader at the coin minting presses and implements system solutions for various high-tech sectors. For the financial year 2017 Schuler made a revenue of 1,233 billion Euro and has currently ca. 6600 employees in around 40 countries. Schuler belongs to the Austrian group ANDRITZ.

Initial Situation

The Schuler Group creates in various business sectors calculations and proposals for machines and facilities with different size and complexity. The different types of proposals serve for product variants with a configuration character, as well as for large-scale facilities for the automobile industry. The calculation itself will be created with the help of reusable components, which are saved in the so called libraries and which could be adapted to any individual demands. Before the introduction of calcIT the engineering companies used a self-developed tool and some Excel solutions for the calculations. These, however, were no longer able to respond to the increasing global demands and had to be replaced with a new consistent solution with a central data storage.

The calculation schema of Schuler was initially represented within calcIT in collaboration with their clients. A special feature is the representation of across-companies projects within the Schuler Group in the form of delivery splits and underdeliveries. With the implementation of the respective transfer rules Schuler was able to connect the individual calculations to the complex international large-scale projects. Hereinafter are listed some of the requirements, implemented especially for Schuler:  

  • Extensive imports to the SAP system for an efficient development of project and cost structures in calcIT when is comes to repeated components
  • Calculation of assets on the basis of reference systems, considering inflation factors
  • Easy transfer of calculation values to the SAP system as a solid base fort he project controlling
  • Fast editing thanks to the editing possibilities both in the input screen and in table view
  • Representation of intercompany processes
  • Representation of configuration and print templates for an integrated creation of proposals for standard machines
  • Internationality for a global use

Purpose

Schuler AG uses calcIT across the company to make detailed calculations of new machines. With the extension of an integrated configuration solution for a proposal creation of standard machines, an integrated solution will be implemented. In this way, the efficiency and the transparency of the proposal and calculation process is improved.

In what way does calcIT make the everyday business easier?

With the introduction of calcIT Schuler AG has managed to obtain a harmonised calculation process across the company with the corresponding interfaces to their SAP ERP system. calcIT has a transparent overview, especially with major projects, involving many group companies and divisions.
